Dentures & Partials

When there is bone loss or excessive tooth decay, dentures or partials should be considered. Bone loss around the roots of your teeth is the primary reason people get dentures. Dentures can be important for several reasons: to provide your mouth with structure, support your remaining teeth and to allow you to continue eating and talking.  Leaving the gaps in your jaw from missing teeth can have a detrimental effect on the rest of your mouth.  The gaps could allow your other teeth to shift and it’s more difficult to keep your mouth clean which could lead to gum disease.

The dentist will discuss with you which teeth should be removed then they will be extracted while you’re under anesthesia.  The dentures will be fitted to go over or around any teeth that remain in your mouth. It will take time to get used to your new dentures, but patience will help you overcome any short-term discomfort.  Your dentures will soon feel like and look like natural teeth.
